12 March 2019

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that Police officers were justified in pursuing a vehicle believed to contain a wanted offender on 11 March 2018. The pursuit ended when the fleeing driver overtook a truck, colliding with an oncoming vehicle. The occupants of both vehicles were killed on impact.

6 March 2019

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that while the use of road spikes was an appropriate tactical option, an officer should not have deployed them to stop a fleeing driver near Puhoi on 28 February 2018. The officer deployed the road spikes too early, causing injury to an innocent member of the public.

31 January 2019

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that the force used against a man who was arrested in Gisborne on 2 January 2018 was lawful but poorly executed. The Authority investigated the incident after the man complained to Police, having sustained a fractured nose and eye socket.
