5 December 2019

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that two officers were justified in using pepper spray, Tasers and manual force to effect a man's arrest in Geraldine on 31 August 2018.



28 November 2019

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that two officers were legally justified in firing 12 shots at Jerrim Toms on State Highway 1 near Puhoi on 31 March 2018, after he advanced on them while wielding a machete. However, there was inadequate communication, control and command of the incident as a whole, by Police.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that Police were justified in using a Police dog during the arrest of a man in Auckland on 9 November 2018.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that former Inspector Hurimoana Dennis and other officers unlawfully detained an Auckland teenager in 2015.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that former Inspector Hurimoana Dennis improperly influenced the outcome of a criminal investigation into his own son in 2014.



7 November 2019

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has completed its investigation into an allegation that, in 2018, an officer from the Otahuhu Police Station was planting evidence so he could search vehicles under the Search and Surveillance Act 2012. The Authority found that, while there was no proof this actually happened, some officers' comments demonstrated they were prepared to engage in improper and potentially discriminatory policing practices.

5 November 2019

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has determined that allegations of a delay in an investigation by a Southern District sole-charge Police officer into alleged game-poaching in May 2018 were unfounded. The Authority also found that perceived conflicts of interest arose in relation to the matter; however, actions taken by the officer which contributed to these were reasonable, and Police policy relating to managing conflicts of interest is inadequate in terms of its practicality in a small, rural community.


31 October 2019

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that an officer's use of a Police dog on a man who was being arrested was legally justified, because the officer believed the man posed a risk of serious injury to his fellow officers.

24 October 2019

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that it was reasonable for an officer to fire 21 shots at a driver who repeatedly drove towards and reversed at him in the Coromandel on 28 August 2017.
