The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that a Police officer breached a trespass order by entering the Kaingaroa Forest on a number of occasions between October 2017 and May 2018. On two occasions he took firewood from the forest without permission.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that two officers were justified in using pepper spray, Tasers and manual force to effect a man's arrest in Geraldine on 31 August 2018.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that two officers were legally justified in firing 12 shots at Jerrim Toms on State Highway 1 near Puhoi on 31 March 2018, after he advanced on them while wielding a machete. However, there was inadequate communication, control and command of the incident as a whole, by Police.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that former Inspector Hurimoana Dennis unlawfully detained an Auckland teenager in 2015, and improperly influenced the outcome of a criminal investigation into his own son in 2014. Inspector Dennis retired from Police in April 2018.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has determined that allegations of a delay in an investigation by a Southern District sole-charge Police officer into alleged game-poaching in May 2018 were unfounded. The Authority also found that perceived conflicts of interest arose in relation to the matter; however, actions taken by the officer which contributed to these were reasonable, and Police policy relating to managing conflicts of interest is inadequate in terms of its practicality in a small, rural community.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that an officer's use of a Police dog on a man who was being arrested was legally justified, because the officer believed the man posed a risk of serious injury to his fellow officers.
