The Authority received a complaint in July 2017 that an off-duty officer in Tasman District had grabbed the complainant's 9 year old daughter by the shoulder and spoken harshly to her, causing her to become upset.
An unsuccessful attempt was made to conciliate the matter and Police then conducted a criminal investigation.
The investigation resulted in the officer receiving a written warning.
An employment investigation and review of the file by an out-of-district investigator concluded that the allegation could not be substantiated on the balance of probabilities. On that basis the warning previously issued was rescinded.
A meeting was held between the officer and the District Commander to discuss the issues and future expectations. No other action was taken.
The Authority agrees with the ultimate findings and action.
