Annual Report 2012

27 November 2012: During the 2011/12 year the Authority continued to work to ensure that public confidence in the performance and integrity of New Zealand Police is enhanced through robust and independent oversight. The added value and impact of the Authority’s effective discharge of its role is reassurance for the public and the Government that New Zealand policing standards are of the highest calibre and that any issues for Police, or for members of the public in their interaction with Police, will be carefully and independently examined and constructively reported on.

During the year, Judge Sir David Carruthers took over from the Honourable Justice Lowell Goddard as chair of the IPCA.

This report highlights progress and achievements across a range of activities during the financial year, including:

  • Being appropriately visible and accessible to the public, Police and complainants.
  • Providing timely responses to matters under our action and ensuring those responses are respectful and sensitive to the needs of those we engage with.
  • Demonstrating that we take an independent approach to our work.
  • Relative levels of trust, confidence and satisfaction in our management of processes.
  • Continuing to derive greater efficiencies and effectiveness in the way we seek to manage service demand.
