IPCA to determine next steps re Police photographing young Māori

23 December 2020

Following Radio New Zealand reports this week that Police have been photographing young Māori in the Wairarapa, the Independent Police Conduct Authority contacted Police on Monday 21 December.

Although no complaints from the individuals concerned have yet been received, we have agreed with Police that the matter will be referred to us under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Authority and the Commissioner of Police.

When the referral is received, the Authority will determine the form of its investigation.
