Inappropriate comments made by off duty officer to child riding a motorbike

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a notification from Central District.

A Police officer made an inappropriate and unprofessional comment to a young boy who was riding a motorbike near a beach.

After it was determined that the officer's actions did not meet the threshold for a criminal prosecution, Police carried out an employment investigation.

It was found that the officer's action did amount to undesirable conduct and he was dealt with through a confidential employment process. The officer has since retired from the New Zealand Police and is no longer a serving member.

Police apologised to the boy's family.
