The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into allegations that a Waikato Police officer had sexually assaulted a complainant. The offending pre-dated the man’s employment with Police but came to light while he was a serving officer.
Police undertook a criminal investigation, following which the officer was charged. He was found guilty at trial and held in prison for sentencing. He resigned from Police before any employment process was commenced.
On 6 August 2026, the former officer was sentenced to nine years and four months imprisonment.
The Authority is satisfied that Police conducted a robust criminal investigation into this matter.
