The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that, over a period of 18 months, a Waikato officer completed more than a thousand unauthorised searches of the Police database while off duty.
Police interviewed the officer, made further enquiries and reviewed a large sample of the database searches. They determined that the officer completed the searches for legitimate work purposes and there was no misconduct or improper use of Police systems.
There was concern, however, that the officer was unable to disengage from policing matters when off duty. This concern about work/ life imbalance and their general welfare was addressed during the employment process.
The Authority agrees with the outcome in this matter.
