The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into concerns relating to an officer’s apparent relationship with a gang member between 2022 and 2023.
Police became aware of the alleged relationship, and the possibility that the officer was sharing sensitive information with the gang member, while investigating organised crime. Police launched a separate investigation into the officer’s actions.
The investigation uncovered that the officer had shared sensitive intelligence information with the gang member, including information Police held about the gang member himself.
During the investigation, the officer resigned from Police.
The former officer was prosecuted and pleaded guilty to charges relating to corrupt use of official information, accessing a computer system for dishonest purpose, and possessing cocaine.
The Authority is satisfied that Police conducted a robust investigation into this matter.
