Off-duty Police officer refused evidential blood alcohol test

26 March 2026

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation after a Police officer was found intoxicated in his car in the middle of the road while off duty. The officer partially completed an evidential breath test, which had an initial result of over 400 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath, but refused to complete this and also refused an evidential blood test.

Police charged the officer with failure to comply with an officer request for an evidential blood test, and he subsequently pleaded guilty and was convicted.

The officer resigned from Police soon after this.

The Authority is satisfied with the Police investigation and agrees with their finding.
