Auckland Officer investigated for possession of cannabis and conflict of interest

27 January 2026

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into concerns that an officer had been found to be in possession of cannabis and a pipe, while living at the same address as a gang associate. The gang associate was charged with possessing methamphetamine for supply and was bailed to the shared address. They were subsequently convicted. There was no direct evidence to suggest that the officer was aware of the gang associate's drug dealing.

Police undertook a criminal investigation regarding the cannabis concerns, which resulted in the officer receiving a discharge without conviction.

Police also undertook an employment investigation regarding the conflict of interest concern, and that concern was upheld.

The Authority is satisfied with Police's investigations and their outcomes.

The officer resigned from Police.
