Officer misused Police database in Canterbury

24 February 2026

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint alleging that a Police officer misused the Police database and provided private, sensitive information to a third party without consent or authorisation.

The Police conducted an investigation which found that the officer had been contacted by a family friend who had concerns about the welfare of their children. The officer used the Police database twice to look up personal information about another individual relating to the children’s welfare. He had then passed some of that information to the family friend.

Police carried out an employment process. The Authority is satisfied this was a robust process, and we agree with the outcome.
