Off-duty Police officer misuses Police database for personal reasons

17 September 2026

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an officer used the Police database for personal reasons and shared Police information with his partner.

An audit of the officer’s use of the Police database identified several unauthorised queries, including checks on homes next to a house he was looking to purchase, and on potential flatmates before they moved into the officer’s home. The investigation also found the officer shared information with his partner about the potential flatmates after he completed the database queries.

Police concluded the officer breached Police policy on acceptable use of information and technology and had engaged in serious misconduct.

The Authority is satisfied with Police’s investigation into this matter and agrees with the outcome reached.
