Canterbury officer charged with assaulting ex-partner

24 September 2026

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation a Canterbury Police officer assaulted their ex-partner.

Police arrested the officer and they were charged with assaulting their ex-partner and remanded on bail. While on bail, the officer twice breached a bail condition not to associate with their ex-partner and was arrested on both occasions.

The officer pleaded guilty to the offence and both bail breaches and was granted a discharge without conviction.

Police then undertook an employment process, but the officer resigned before the process was completed. The Authority agrees with the outcome reached in this matter.
