The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an officer shared information from the Police database with a friend for non-work-related reasons.

Police conducted an audit of the officer’s access to the Police database which confirmed the officer had accessed information about their friend’s relative.

Police executed a warrant to search the officer’s personal phone and located messages between the officer and their friend. In those messages, the friend asked the officer to get Police information relating to their brother’s arrest. The officer replied that they would look up the information while at work, later provided the requested details, and then asked their friend to delete the messages.                               

Police charged the officer with accessing the database for a dishonest purpose. The officer pleaded guilty and was convicted and sentenced to 60 hours of community service.

Police commenced an employment process; however, the officer resigned before the process concluded.
