The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an off-duty officer assaulted his 16-year-old stepson during a dispute.

Police conducted a criminal investigation into the allegation. However, neither party involved agreed to be interviewed by Police and the stepson did not want to proceed with the matter after his initial complaint. The Police investigation concluded with insufficient evidence to charge.

Despite the stepson reiterating that he did not want to proceed with his complaint, Police then undertook an employment process and interviewed the officer involved. The officer denied the assault and told Police it was a verbal dispute only. This was corroborated by the stepson’s mother, who was at home with her teenage daughter when the alleged incident occurred. Police were refused consent to interview the daughter. 

Police found no evidence to support the allegation that the officer assaulted his stepson, and the complaint was therefore not upheld.

The Authority is satisfied with the Police investigations and agrees with their finding.
