The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an officer sent sensitive information from their Police email account to their personal account. This triggered an alert to the Police cyber security team, who conducted an audit of the officer’s use of the Police national database.
The audit found queries that appeared non-work related, including searches on the officer themselves, their family, current and previous Police officers, serious investigations the officer was not involved in, and over 80 queries conducted while the officer was on leave.
The officer involved resigned before the investigation finalised, however Police found the officer’s actions were in breach of Police policy and their Code of Conduct.
The Authority is satisfied Police responded appropriately to the allegations and agrees with the outcome reached.
