Police investigation finds officer inappropriately kicked complainant’s car in Northland

16 October 2025

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint that an officer swore at a complainant and kicked their car, causing damage to its bodywork.

While the criminal investigation found that the officer involved kicked the complainant’s car, Police could not prove that this caused any damage. The investigation concluded there was insufficient evidence to charge the officer, and the Authority agreed with these findings.

The officer resigned before Police commenced an employment process to address the officer’s behaviour.

The Authority is satisfied that Police adequately investigated the matter.
