The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into the actions of an officer who crashed into a concrete wall while undertaking urgent duty driving. The driver was not injured, however the passenger of the vehicle, who was also an officer, sustained a broken arm and a concussion.
The Police investigation established that the Police patrol car was travelling at speeds of up to 146kph prior to the collision on a road with the posted speed limit of 50kph. Police found the officer’s speed was unnecessary and excessive, and the officer was charged with dangerous driving causing injury. The Authority agreed with this conclusion.
The officer pleaded guilty and was discharged without conviction, fined and disqualified from driving for one year.
Police completed an employment process and found the officer had breached the Police Urgent Duty Driving Policy, Values and the Code of Conduct.
The Authority is satisfied with Police’s investigation into this matter and agrees with the outcome reached.
