Allegation of assault by off-duty Police employee not upheld

4 November 2025

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an off-duty Police employee started a physical altercation with a man while they were drinking in a bar. The security staff ejected them from the venue and, once outside, the man said the employee tackled him to the ground and punched and kicked him multiple times. The man said this caused grazing and swelling to his face and body.

The employee denied the allegations and resigned during the investigation process for unrelated reasons. The investigation found no evidence to support the allegation that the Police employee had initiated the fight, and insufficient evidence to charge the employee.

The Authority is satisfied with the Police investigation and agrees with the outcome.
