The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that a Northland District off-duty officer acted in an aggressive manner and assaulted a man.
The off-duty officer went to his grandchildren’s school where their father was trying to collect them without appropriate permission.
There was a verbal altercation between the off-duty officer, the man, and the man’s adult son who had arrived with his father. The officer grabbed the man’s son and pulled him to the ground.
Police conducted a criminal investigation into the alleged assault. They found that although there was sufficient evidence to lay a charge of assault against the off-duty officer, the circumstances were not in the public interest to proceed with a prosecution.
Police began an employment process, but this ceased when the officer resigned.
We agree with the Police process and findings.
