The Authority oversaw a nationwide review by Police of the legitimacy of employees’ actions in querying the details of the case involving the death of Senior Sergeant Lyn Fleming in the Police database.
Police identified about 600 queries carried out by approximately 110 employees, two weeks after the incident. Fifty of those employees did not have a legitimate work purpose for conducting their queries. All of them queried the person accused of causing Senior Sergeant Fleming’s death, whose identity is currently under a suppression order.
Police carried out confidential employment processes for each of those employees, who were all sanctioned. Police did not identify any criminal concerns from any of the employees accessing the Police database.
The Authority is satisfied with the review Police undertook and the outcomes it reached.
