Officer inappropriately checked their personal information on the Police database over several years

25 June 2025

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an officer accessing the Police National Intelligence Application (NIA) to query themselves. The queries spanned over several years and also included checks by the officer on their own home address.

The Police investigation accepted the officer’s explanation that the queries were made at times when the officer needed their own personal information (such as firearms or driver’s licence details), did not have the information at hand, and so used NIA out of convenience.

Police carried out an employment process, finding that the officer had breach their Code of Conduct.

The Authority is satisfied with the investigation Police undertook and the outcome reached.
