Officer’s inappropriate access of Police database a breach of Police policy

23 June 2025

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that a Central District officer had accessed the Police database for a non-work-related purpose.

The Police investigation identified several queries of the Police database that did not appear to be for a work-related purpose. In relation to one of the queries, the officer admitted he had accessed the Police database three times in one day to view information about a friend’s relative. The officer said this was driven by curiosity, acknowledging it was not work related and was in breach of Police policy. Police found the remaining database queries were for work related reasons.

Police conducted an employment process to address the officer’s breach of their policy.

The Authority agrees with the outcome of the employment process.
