Police investigate allegation that an officer pointed an unactivated Taser at a colleague

28 July 2025

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation an officer removed his inactivated Taser from its holster and pointed it at his colleague during a disagreement at a Police station. The Authority referred the matter back to Police to undertake both a criminal and employment investigation.

Police considered charging the officer with presenting a restricted weapon (a Taser) under the Arms Act 1983. However, it was determined the test for evidential sufficiency was not met, and instead Police carried out a confidential employment process.

The Authority is satisfied with the investigation Police undertook and the outcome reached.
