Counties Manukau officer resigns while being investigated for misuse of the Police database

4 August 2025

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an officer conducted unauthorised queries on the Police database. Police conducted an audit of the officer’s use of the Police database and found several off-duty queries that appeared non-work related. Police also found queries on the officer’s family members and addresses, and queries of current and previous Police officers, none which appeared work-related.

While the officer resigned before the investigation process was finalised, Police found it likely the officer’s actions breached their Code of Conduct.

The Authority is satisfied that Police adequately addressed the allegations and considers the outcome to be appropriate.
