The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into the actions of a traffic speed camera van operator who behaved threateningly and pushed a member of the public, who took exception to the van being operated on the road they reside on.
The Police investigation found that the member of the public approached the stationary van and began protesting its presence, blocking the camera from operating. Shortly after, the operator exited the van and confronted the member of the public. As the two argued, the member of the public removed their phone from their pocket and started filming. The operator pushed the phone away in response, before making a fist at their side and saying to the member of the public: "Do you want to die?" The operator then placed their hand on the arm of the member of the public, and with that motion, the member of the public fell backwards onto the road. The operator then removed themselves, returning to the van and leaving.
The member of the public reported the matter to Police. The operator also informed their supervisor about what had occurred.
Police considered that there was sufficient evidence to charge the operator with threatening behaviour and assault, but that it was not in the public interest to do so. Police then undertook an employment process to address the operator's behaviour.
The Authority is satisfied with Police's investigation and the outcome reached.
