Waikato Officer investigated for use of force against two young people

19 September 2023

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint that an officer used excessive force on two young people after they were arrested for disorderly behaviour.

The Police investigation found there was insufficient evidence to charge the officer with assault.

The subsequent employment process found the officer’s actions did not breach the Police code of conduct. However, the complaint highlighted lessons for Police staff.

The Authority is satisfied with Police’s investigation and agrees with the actions taken.
