RNZ Police College: Allegation of dishonesty by recruit

20 November 2023

The Authority oversaw a police investigation regarding an incident where a recruit found money belonging to a member of the public. Police undertook an investigation process to determine whether the recruit had committed theft or failed to appropriately deal with the money.

When the recruit vacated the police college during the investigation process, police property was found in their luggage. This was also considered as a potential further instance of theft.

The Police investigation concluded that there was insufficient evidence that the recruit committed theft or acted dishonestly. The Authority agrees with the outcome of the investigation.
