Allegation of a sexual assault against off-duty officer

21 February 2023

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a notification where it was alleged an off-duty officer from Auckland had indecently assaulted a woman in Wellington during May 2022.

The woman later informed Police that she was uncomfortable with what transpired after she went to a hotel room with the off-duty officer. Police investigated and found there was insufficient evidence for criminal charges to be filed.

The officer resigned from Police before he was spoken to about the incident.

The Authority is satisfied with the Police action.
