Police staff did not follow policy during arrest of a colleague for family violence

9 February 2023

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint from a former serving Police officer about the process followed during his arrest on 17 September 2021. Three Police officers attended a house to arrest the complainant for family violence. On arriving, the complainant was in his car, and drove past Police.

The officers drove after the complainant and, when he stopped, arrested him for family violence offences. Police found that during this process, there were multiple breaches of policy and statute by the attending staff. Police addressed these issues with an employment process for all involved staff.

The Authority found the investigation was thorough and agrees with the actions Police took to address the policy and statute breaches.
