PNHQ: Police employee used a forged medical certificate

19 December 2023

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that a police employee submitted a forged medical certificate to confirm they were certified unfit for work.

The police investigation determined the employee altered a previous medical certificate and submitted this to their supervisor upon request. Police considered there was sufficient evidence of a criminal offence and that the employee acted dishonestly. However, the public interest threshold for prosecution was not met. The employee resigned during the investigation process.

The Authority agrees the police investigation and findings were appropriate in the circumstances.
