The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a notification alleging an officer used excessive force on a 15-year-old while in Police custody. It was alleged the officer leant against the 15-year-old’s neck, restricting his breathing.
Following a Police investigation, the officer was charged with assault and impeding breathing. The charges were withdrawn after issues were identified with the investigation undertaken by Police. Police accept there were errors in their investigation and have addressed these concerns.
Police conducted an employment investigation, and found on the balance of probability, the force was justified. We agree with the outcome of the investigation.
