The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a Bay of Plenty officer who failed to receipt found property. The property was subsequently misplaced.
In May 2022, a man handed a found hearing aid to Police. The hearing aid was forwarded to an officer who failed to document this found property.
In June, another man attended the public counter to report the loss of a hearing aid. The same officer told the man of the one previously handed in, but he could not locate it at the time. The officer also failed to formally document this lost property. In the weeks that followed, the officer searched for the hearing aid but was unable to find it. He later acknowledged he had misplaced it.
