Police employee’s role at the Auckland Domain protest breached Covid-19 regulations

27 October 2022

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation an employee from Counties Manukau breached Covid-19 regulations when he promoted and participated in the Auckland Domain protest on 2 October 2021 (during Alert Level 3).

A criminal investigation determined there was sufficient evidence to charge the employee with breaching a Covid-19 order. However, Police decided not to prosecute the employee because he did not actively promote or participate in the further protests.

The Authority considers Police appropriately dealt with the employee’s conduct through an employment process.
