Wellington District: Officer involved in Family Harm event while on duty

19 December 2022

The Authority was notified of an allegation that a Police employee attended a former partner’s home multiple times during work hours resulting in a verbal argument. It was alleged the staff member inappropriately accessed the Police database just prior to the incident.

The employee admitted they showed poor judgement in their actions, and the inquiries on the Police database were not for a proper policing purpose. Police dealt with the matter by way of a confidential employment process.

While the Authority considered a formal investigation process was warranted, we are satisfied Police took this matter seriously and reached an appropriate outcome.
