Police response to an historic incident of family violence in Waitemata

10 May 2022

A woman complained Police did not properly handle a family violence incident which happened some years ago when she alleged her partner had tried to strangle her.

At the instigation of the Authority, Police met with the complainant to hear her concerns. They acknowledged the effects the incident had had on her and explained how Police have changed the way they handle family violence since the incident occurred. They also explained the law now provided a specific offence for incidents of this nature.

The woman was satisfied with the Police response and explanations.
