Review of Police actions taken in response to a report of a missing person

17 May 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police review of an incident in Tāmaki Makaurau involving the notification of a missing person.

Police carried out a policy, practice and procedures review to identify whether their staff had followed best practice when responding to the time-sensitive event. As a result of their review, Police identified an error made by a staff member that delayed their response in searching for the missing person. The staff member involved acknowledged their mistake and received refresher training. As a result of the review, Police have strengthened their internal processes and procedures so that any future missing person events in Tāmaki Makaurau are responded to in a timelier and more coordinated manner.

The Authority is satisfied with how the Police conducted their review of this incident and the outcomes they reached
