Two officers in Wellington accused of poor conduct in relation interviewing a suspect

26 January 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that two officers in Wellington engaged in poor conduct when interviewing a suspect. The officers failed to record their interview with the suspect properly leading to a misrepresentation of what he said. The officers also failed to provide the defence with all the relevant information.

The investigation upheld the complaint but decided there was no criminal liability arising from this.

The officers' conduct was dealt with through an employment process which resulted in an appropriate outcome.

The Authority agreed with the outcome.
