The Authority oversaw a Police investigation of an allegation that a Police Sergeant assaulted a woman in custody. Police became aware of the incident after two Constables, who witnessed the assault, reported the matter to a supervisor.
As a result of the police investigation the Sergeant was charged with three separate assaults, including one charge which resulted in the woman struggling to breathe.
He resigned after pleading guilty to the charges.
The Authority agrees with the outcome and actions taken by Police and commends the two Constables who reported the matter.
