Officer in Wellington reverses into someone

10 June 2020

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation a Police officer had deliberately reversed into a pedestrian at speed. The investigation which involved interviewing witnesses to the incident, found the officer had not done so. Police considered it was more likely the person had deliberately walked into the path of the vehicle to create a distraction for an associate who had a warrant for his arrest. However, there was insufficient evidence to prove this.

The Authority reviewed the investigation and agreed with the outcome.
