Officer from Auckland City District pleads guilty to assaulting a 14-year old boy

23 July 2020

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation, where it was alleged an officer cut a 14-year-old boy's hair, following a fleeing driver pursuit. Police charged the officer with assault. The officer pleaded guilty and on appeal was discharged without conviction. The officer subsequently received an employment sanction for the assault.

Both the officer and Police apologised to the victim. Police expressed remorse for the officer's actions, and acknowledged the assault was culturally disrespectful.

The Authority agrees with the outcome of the Police investigations.
