Fleeing driver collided with a Police vehicle after an abandoned Police pursuit

11 August 2020

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a collision involving a Police vehicle in Christchurch.

A driver fleeing from Police who had turned his vehicle's lights off, driven through a stop sign and onto the wrong side of the road collided head on with a Police vehicle which was responding to an unrelated emergency call.

The Police investigation established that the pursuing Police vehicles had abandoned the pursuit before the crash. The investigation concluded that the Police fleeing driver policy had been complied with and Police were not at fault for the collision. The Authority agrees with those findings.
