Police Officer in the Eastern District sanctioned for failing to bring charges and returning a prohibited item to a suspect

23 September 2019

The Authority oversaw the investigation of an officer who failed to charge a suspect after a family-harm incident. The officer also returned property to the suspect which, on reflection, the officer has accepted should have been destroyed. Upon conclusion of the employment process, the allegation was upheld, and appropriate action was taken to address the matter with the officer.

In a related matter the suspect claimed that Police misappropriated an amount of money from his safe after seizing it. A subsequent criminal investigation found that the allegation could not be upheld.
