Officer accessed Police system for personal use

16 May, 2019

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a notification from Counties Manukau. It was alleged that an officer who was off duty had a dispute with an ex-flatmate which resulted in physical force being used. During the course of the investigation it was established that the officer had accessed a Police database for personal use. Having determined that the officer's actions did not meet the threshold for a criminal prosecution, Police carried out an employment investigation. The complaint about the officer's use of force was found to be not upheld. The complaint that he accessed a Police database for personal use was upheld he was dealt with through a confidential employment process. The Authority agreed with the Police decision.
