The Authority oversaw a Police investigation in Northland District into a complaint of poor service made by a member of the public who found a wallet and handed it in to the Whangarei Police Station. The complaint was upheld in relation to inadequate service given to the member of public when he was at the station to hand in the wallet and a derogatory comment was made about the owner of the wallet by the staff member at the front counter.
The wallet went missing and was not located during a Police investigation. Relevant staff who were working on the date the wallet was handed in were spoken to but the staff member who spoke to the complainant at the front counter could not be identified. An apology was provided to the wallet's owner and an offer to discuss reparation. The Authority considers Police have taken the matter as far as possible.
