Status of report into Operation 8 - "Urewera Raids"

30 March 2012

In response to media inquiries, the Authority Chair, Justice Lowell Goddard, has provided the following update on the status of the IPCA report into Operation 8.

“The Authority provided its draft report, containing preliminary findings and recommendations, to Police in February before the conclusion of the trial in the High Court at Auckland, as part of the natural justice process required under s.31 of the IPCA Act.

This consultation phase ensures Police are given a reasonable opportunity to be heard before the process is completed and the Authority finalises its report.  The process is continuing and the Authority is awaiting the Police response.

The Authority intends to report publicly on its findings at the conclusion of this process, but is not yet able to determine a date for the report to be issued.”
