 Communications Adviser

The IPCA is an Independent Crown Entity established by the IPCA Act to investigate and resolve complaints against the Police.  The IPCA receives and investigates complaints alleging misconduct or neglect of duty by Police employees, or concerning any practice, policy, or procedure of the Police. 

The IPCA also investigates incidents where a Police employee causes, or appears to have caused, death or serious bodily harm. The IPCA also has responsibility for monitoring and reporting on Police custodial facilities as a National Preventive Mechanism under the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT).

We have created a temporary position of Communications Adviser to support the Manager Corporate to develop and deliver the communication strategy and activities.  Initially this will be for a 6 month period with the potential for further work.

If you are the sort of person that thrives in a position where you have the scope to design and implement new initiatives, then this is a great opportunity to be involved in a mix of BAU and project activities.  You can look forward to a variety of work across internal and external communications, website and intranet development.  With a number of project related activities to focus on, you will be able to utiilise your ability in developing and enhancing communications activities.

 

The core focus for this fixed term position initially is to:

  • design and setup shifting the intranet to a sharepoint environment including development of content
  • develop and implement an active internal communications plan
  • consolidate existing external engagement and communications activity into a shared resource
  • develop external communications activities required that aligns to the stakeholder engagement strategy as it is developed
  • review and implement enhancements to our external communications activities including social media and our website

We are looking for a motivated self-starter who enjoys being in a role where you can proactively suggest and successfully implement new ideas. 

Your background will include the following:

  • internal/external communications experience, ideally with some in a public sector environment
  • experience developing, enhancing or maintaining websites/intranets (knowledge of website CMS systems)
  • strong written skills and an ability to take complex information and synthesize into key messages for relevant audiences.
  • excellent organisational skills along with the ability use initiative, establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Mâori tikanga
  • strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
