Officer’s inappropriate use of Police database

12 November 2025

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that a new Police employee inappropriately accessed the Police database to check information about himself and some family members. The breaches were historical, but were picked up in 2024 during the employee’s recruitment process to become a sworn police officer.

The employee carried out a number of checks for non-work information soon after beginning his employment with Police. He then made further checks some weeks later despite having been advised of the importance of using Police information correctly and only for work purposes.

Police carried out an employment process, and we agree with the outcome of that process.
